Some 42,000 Romanian Public Servants On Go-Slow Strike

Union vice-president Romel Neagu told MEDIAFAX news agency that some 42,000 unionists in the local public administration countrywide have joined the protest.

In Bucharest, over 4,000 public servants are on go-slow strike, Neagu added.

The Federation will also organize a two-hour warning strike on Thursday.

Unionists are discontent that the Federation was not invited to negotiations for 2008 wage increases. Unionists say the government’s proposed 4.5% increase is unacceptable as it is below the inflation rate estimated for 2008.
