Trade Register: 4,100 Romanian Cos Entered Insolvency In 2010

The number of companies that started insolvency procedures in the first to months of 2010 exceeded 4,100, 35% more than in the same period a year earlier, according to data of the Romanian Trade Register Office, or ONRC.

In the first two months of 2009, 3,049 firms started insolvency procedures.

Out of the total number of insolvent companies in January to February 2010, 40% operate in the commerce and retail sectors, 16% in the manufacturing industry, and 15% in constructions.

In February alone, 2,022 companies entered insolvency, compared with 2,082 in January, ONRC data showed.

In 2009, 18,241 companies entered insolvency, up 25% on the year.

About one million companies are registered in Romania.
