Two Romanian citizens died on Friday, in the locality Ledanca, Guadalajara, following an explosion at a gasoline warehouse located in a car park on the highway A-2.

According to the electronic edition of Heraldo daily, one of the victims, aged 31, was a guard. He died few hours after the explosion, in the burn unit of the hospital in Getafe, Madrid, where he was taken as he had severe injuries on 90% of his body.

A close friend of his, aged 19, died because of the explosion, which was followed by a major blaze. Police officers are trying to establish why the victims were at the warehouse when the blast occurred, at 2 a.m local time.

An official in Guadalajara said both Romanians were legally in Spain, and had work permits.

The causes of the explosion remain unknown, but the fire caused by the blaze destroyed 50 cars and damaged other 20.

In the last few days significant quantities of fuel have been stolen in Ledanca, said the mayor of the locality, Francisco Torre. However, authorities have not confirmed any connection linking the alleged fuel robbery to the explosion.
