“The new patient with suspected novel virus is a 19-year-old boy, student in the last year at a high school in Cluj. The teenager arrived on Saturday, on a plane from New York to Budapest, from where he took a bus to Cluj,” said Geza Molnar, adviser to Health Minister Ion Bazac.

Molnar said medics have sent tests for confirmation to the Cantacuzino Institute in Bucharest.

If confirmed, this would be the sixth case of H1N1 infection in the country.

Romania identified its “patient zero” on May 27 in a 30-year-old woman who recently arrived from New York.

Four more cases of H1N1 influenza have been confirmed since then.
