Bucharest Police Drug Raid Ends In 17 Arrests

Seventeen members of the main drug ring in Bucharest were arrested under the charges of bringing in the country and distributing luxury drugs in Bucharest and in the counties Arges, Valcea, Dambovita, Prahova and Buzau.

Organized crime police officers in Bucharest, coordinated by organized crime prosecutors, found evidence pointing to the illegal activity of the main drug trafficking ring in Bucharest.

The drugs (cocaine, ecstasy, hashish and cannabis) were brought in by the ring leaders in western countries, especially Holland, and distributed in Bucharest by the members of the group to the local dealers or directly to the luxury bars in Bucharest, at EUR10 per ecstasy pill and EUR100 for one gram of cocaine.

The “Polar” operation rounded up 20 suspects, aged between 20 and 31, in Bucharest and in Valcea county.

Authorities organized 15 simultaneous raids at the homes of the suspects in Bucharest. Following these actions, the members of the group were brought in for questioning.

Searches revealed 3,000 ecstasy pills, some 250 grams of cocaine, 15 grams of hashish, two grams of cannabis, materials used in the wrapping and consumption of drugs, a precision electronic scale, 25 mobile phones, as well as EUR10,790 and RON5,970, sums of money assumed to come from the trafficking of narcotics.

The suspects were brought before the Bucharest Court and 17 of them were arrested on drug trafficking charges, conspiracy and possession of narcotics.
