Children Blocked On Airport Near London, Awaiting Flight Back To Romania

Members of the group claim they were not contacted by Wizz Air representatives and say they have to face cold weather, hunger and thirst as they ran out of money.

The group counts 50 students and 13 teachers.

“They haven’t eaten, they’re scared and I don’t know what’s going to happen to them. They ran out of money, as nobody expected such a thing and we can’t send them money as they have no cards. The airliner has not managed to solve anything by now. They claim the runway is covered with ice, but they’re not doing anything for the children,” Mioara Bogdan, the mother of one of the children on the Luton airport, told MEDIAFAX.

She said the group of children has been on the airport since 6 a.m., Romanian local time.

Teachers requested the help of Romania’s consulate in London.

Wizz Air representatives could not be reached to comment on the situation.

Wizz Air cancelled Thursday morning the flight from Luton to Bucharest, for the second time this week, over heavy snowfall, and passengers had to turn to other more expensive flight operators to come back to Romania.

Wizz Air officials apologized then, saying they did not know the Luton airport will be closed on Sunday, and that snowfall and bad weather conditions determined the local authorities take this action.
