"People shouldn’t worry, there won’t be significant price hikes. On the whole, prices will decrease,” Bazac said.

Producer prices for medicine made in Romania will increase an average 6% and that of imported drugs will decrease by nearly 10% as of April 1, when an order of the health minister adjusting drug producer prices becomes effective.

According to the first calculations performed by Health Ministry experts, imported drugs will be cheaper by an average 10%, Dan Zaharescu, head of the Romanian Association of Drug Producers and Importers, told MEDIAFAX.

According to the minister’s order, the reference currency exchange rate was set at 4 lei to the euro as of February 2, from the previous rates of 3.32 lei to the euro for Romanian drugs and 3.6 lei to the euro for imported drugs.
