Tecuceanu's family has sued Health Ministry secretary of state Streinu Cercel and the infectious diseases hospital Matei Bals where, according to Streinu Cercel and the medical staff, Tecuceanu died after having become infected with the AH1N1 flu virus. Tecuceanu's family said the statements alleging Tecuceanu died because of the AH1N1 flu virus have caused moral damages.

The trial is due to start on September 2.

In January this year, Streinu Cercel said Tecuceanu became infected with the AH1N1 flu virus, which ultimately led to severe lung complications. He also said at the time that Tecuceanu was also suffering from obesity, but that was not what led to his death.

Tecuceanu was admitted to Matei Bals hospital three days after he had become infected with the virus and was diagnosed with swine flu around Christmas. His condition gradually worsened, as he developed pneumonia, which led to lung failure and ultimately death.

Born on January 13, 1972, Tecuceanu took part in UN peace keeping missions, starred in numerous films, acted in many plays and performed in various TV shows and sitcoms.

In 2006, Tecuceanu was awarded best young actor, at the Young Performers Gala, for his rendition of Lomeier in the "Arabian Night," directed by Theodora Herghelegiu.

Over the past three years, Tecuceanu has grown famous for his performance in Cronica Carcotasilor (The Naggers' Show), a weekly satire show on Prima TV, hosted by Serban Huidu and Mihai Gainusa, which ridicules various celebrities on the political, media and showbiz scene.
