"Investments of Ford in Romania will continue after the EUR675 million threshold," sources close to the carmaker said.

Ford has finished installing production lines at the plant in Craiova, both for the B-Max model and the new engines the carmaker will produce in Romania. Each assembly line has an output capacity of 300,000 units per year.

Ford presented its B-Max minivan concept at the Geneva Motor Show on March 1 and serial production of the model starts in Craiova next year.

Ford Motor Co. bought 72.4% of Romania's Automobile Craiova in September 2007, for EUR57 million. In the privatization contract, Ford committed to invest EUR675 million in the Romanian plant within four years.

In 2010, the carmaker called for and obtained an extension and has pledged to reach the promised investment level in 2013. Wolfgang Schneider, vice-president of Ford Europe, said early this month the new contract between Ford and the Romanian Government would be signed in April.
