Gabriel Iosif on Friday stepped down as head of the Bucharest Lakes and Parks Administration (ALPAB), saying the economy "is going through an interesting period and this is the perfect time to seize all opportunities."

"I have been working in the private sector for 19 years. I think the economy is going through an interesting period and this is the perfect time to seize all opportunities," said Iosif, quoted in a press release of the Bucharest mayoralty.

Iosif thanked Bucharest mayor Sorin Oprescu for the opportunity he had given him and said he hoped his successors would carry out the projects he started.

In turn, Oprescu said he understands that the opportunities ahead are a priority for Iosif and stressed he appreciates his fair play.

According to the press release, deputy director Radu Popa will replace Iosif at the headship of the administration until a contest to fill the position of director is organized.
