Gorbunov Remains Main Suspect In C Romania Armed Robbery, Double Homicide

Prosecutors have already heard several people in connection with the case and said Gorbunov remains the main suspect until further checkups on his alibis and the outcome of the ballistic expertise.

Ramona Diaconu, spokesperson for the Prosecutors’ Office of the Brasov Court of Appeals, Tuesday said prosecutors would continue investigations despite Gorbunov’s alibis, adding they are very engrossed in the case even if they had offered little information on the matter so far.

Prosecutors have not yet heard Gorbunov and he is still detained at the Brasov police department.

Gorbunov’s sparring partner, Ninel Ianculescu, told MEDIAFAX Monday that on the day of the armed robbery, between 16.30 and 18.20 local time, Gorbunov was in k-boxing training, with at least ten other people.

According to Ianculescu, in the past three months, Gorbunov came three-four times per week to a gym close to the exchange office where the armed robbery took place.

Two people were shot dead and a third was injured during the armed robbery last Thursday at a currency exchange office in the center of Brasov.

According to the General Police Inspectorate, two of the victims were employees of the exchange office and the third, a passer-by who tried to stop the robber. The passer-by, 55, was shot in the heart and died shortly after the attack.

One of the exchange office’s employees, 33, was shot in the head and died in intensive care after a three-hour coma. The third victim, 38, lost an eye.

The attacker managed to steal a bag of money from the two exchange office employees, which he later abandoned in the street and fled the scene.
