Mayor Says Bucharest Lia Manoliu Stadium To Be Finalized In 2010

Oprescu added that, apart from construction works on the stadium, feasibility studies were also set off for the construction of nearly 3,000 parking spaces close to the stadium and for landscaping, as well as a study for the alleviation of traffic in the area.

Oprescu stressed that the mayoralty's funds will cover construction works on the stadium until the end of August, adding it will resort to state budget funds afterwards.

Bucharest mayoralty investment director, Bogdan Hreapca, said the mayoralty will soon set up an auction to lease works and services needed to administer the stadium and landscape retail spaces near the stadium.

Mac Popescu, rector of the Bucharest Faculty of Arhitecture Ion Mincu and manager of the stadium architectural project, said Thursday the stadium will be included in a tourist circuit and will be visited just like any other landmarks in Bucharest.

Lia Manoliu stadium will have a capacity of 55,000 seats.

The total value of construction contract amounts to nearly 500 million lei (EUR1=RON4.1380), of which, RON203 million were paid until the end of 2009. The Bucharest mayoralty assigned RON146 million for this investment project in 2010.
