Passenger Train Engine Catches Fire In Southern Romania

The engine of a train on route from Craiova to Piatra Olt, in southern Romania, caught fire Tuesday night as it came into the Spineni-Olt flag station and passengers on the three cars were evacuated, without any injuries.

According to the chief of the Craiova Regional Police Department, Constantin Budici, around 0.15 a.m. officers with the Olt Transportation Police Bureau were notified that an engine in Spineni station had caught fire. The fire was put out in a few minutes by the Bals Emergency Inspectorate, and there were no injuries.

Due to this incident, the train had a 50 minute delay.

Wednesday morning, the engine of another train caught fire in Mures County, in the center of Transylvania, probably as a result of a short-circuit, according to the Mures Emergency Inspectorate. The fire was put out and there were no victims. A replacement engine was sent to take the train to its destination.
