Geoana also said Saturday in Suceava, northern Romania, that half of Romania's people living in rural areas are disregarded and neglected.

Geoana stressed four million Romanians are living under the poverty line, on 10 lei (EUR1=RON4.2894) per day, adding they must get help to be lifted out of poverty and become the country's middle class.

He also said people in rural areas should rejoice a decent living standard and have access to medical services, education and jobs, and stressed that youngsters living in these areas should no longer be forced to seek out jobs abroad.

According to Geoana, Romania must use the EUR13 billion funds from the European Union to develop rural areas and support youngsters who have trouble finding jobs here.

Geoana also said children in rural areas must benefit from more scholarships, stressing only 2% of them have the chance to complete university studies.
