The Romanian and Hungarian governments agreed Tuesday in a joint meeting in Szeged, Hungary, that diplomas granted by the education institutions accredited in both countries will be mutually recognized.

Thus, the two countries will automatically recognize the study periods on each other’s territory.
 
Based on a join statement signed Tuesday in Szeged, the two countries will allow pupils or students to continue studies in the next year upon recognition.
 
The Romanian and Hungarian governments also agreed to continue their partnership in the education sector based on previous agreements. Therefore, they committed to jointly back both teachers and students, ensure modern infrastructure at certain schools in the two countries and update the Agreement in 1997 on mutually recognizing academic degrees and professional qualifications.
 
The two governments will provide financial aid for construction works and equipment needed for education units on each other’s territory.
 
As regards Roma people, the two governments wish to unveil the project dubbed "The education of Roma children – the path toward a stable job" and intensify the exchange of experience and good practice to include them into national strategies in the education sectors of both countries.
