Romania is ranked eighth in the European Union by EU agriculture funds attracted in 2009, which amounted to EUR2.1 billion, according to data released by the European Commission’s department on Common Agriculture Policy (CAP).

According to the data, France, Spain, Germany and Italy attracted the largest amount of EU agriculture funds in 2009.

France received a total of EUR9.87 billion in EU agriculture funds last year, followed by Spain (7.26 billion), Germany (EUR6.9 billion) and Italy EUR6.08 billion. The UK attracted EU agriculture funds in the amount of EUR4.04 billion, Poland received EUR3.72 billion and Greece - EUR3.05 billion.

Overall 2009 CAP spending stood at EUR56.78 billion last year, of which direct aid support and market support measures (Pillar I) totaled EUR43 billion. Direct aid support amounted to a total of EUR39.1 billion.

As regards direct aid support, Romania attracted only EUR596 billion and Hungary EUR758 million, while France received EUR8.2 billion, followed by Germany (EUR5.5 billion), Spain (EUR5.1 billion), Italy (EUR4.1 billion) and the UK (EUR3.3 billion).

Rural development funds (Pillar II) totaled EUR13.7 billion, and the largest amounts were attracted by Poland (EUR1.9 billion), Romania (EUR1.5 billion), Spain (EUR1.3 billion), Germany EUR1.2 billion and Italy (EUR1.1 billion). France and the UK attracted EUR947 million, EUR702 million respectively in EU rural development funds.
