Romania Registers Second AH1N1 Fatality

The 58-year-old woman in Bucecea locality, in Romania's northeastern county of Botosani, who died of the novel flu Monday evening, was also suffering from diabetes and obesity, the ministry also said.

The woman died at the local infectious diseases hospital in Botosani where she had been admitted late last week with AH1N1 infection and severe lung problems.

The ministry also said other ten patients admitted at the infectious diseases hospital in Iasi, eastern Romania, with severe forms of the A/H1N1 flu virus, are in stable condition.

Romania on Monday registered a first fatality due to the AH1N1 virus in a man in Siret, in the northeastern county of Suceava, bordering Ukraine.

Romania has registered 190 cases with the AH1N1 flu virus over the past 24 hours, while total cases amount to 2258, the ministry said.

Worldwide, the number of AH1N1 fatalities reached 7,860, of which, 1,265 in the United States, 216 in Great Britain, 76 in Italy, 34 in Germany, seven in Hungary, 11 in Sweden, 115 in Spain and 23 in Norway, the ministry said.
