Romania Registers Very Low Voter Turnout Abroad

The number of Romanians who voted in Italy and Spain by GMT 1400 remains low, and a low turnout was also registered in France, Ireland, the United Kingdom and Romania’s neighboring countries.

A number of 2,500 Romanians had voted in Italy by GMT 1400, of which 800 cast their ballots in Turin, which registered the highest turnout. In Spain, 3,000 Romanians cast ballots until GMT 1400. Spain and Italy are the European countries that host the largest communities of Romanians abroad and Italy received 31,000 ballots for this election, while Spain got 90,000.
 
In the republic of Moldova, where the Romanian Foreign Ministry sent 54,000 ballots, only 1,300 Romanians had voted by GMT 1200. Also by that time, 40 Romanians had voted in Ukraine, 40 in Serbia, 30 in Bulgaria and 320 in Hungary.
 
Little over 310 people had voted by GMT 1200 in France, about 400 in Germany, 200 in the U.K. and only six Romanians cast ballots in Ireland.
