Romania’s Dacia 1Q Local Sales Plunge 59.5% To 8,682 Units

In March, Dacia’s sales on the Romanian market saw a 44% drop on the year to 4,073 units.

On the month, however, Dacia sales posted a 50% increase from 2,701 units delivered locally in February.

Recently introduced subsidies for car buyers in Germany gave a boost to demand for Dacia cars, turning Germany into the second largest market for the Romanian carmaker, after France.

Dacia said increased demand makes any personnel cuts or activity suspension highly improbable, at least until August.

The carmaker estimated 75% of this year’s production will be exported, compared to some 65% in 2008.

In 2008, Dacia’s sales in Romania dropped 16.7% to 84,709 units, from 101,799 units sold in 2007.

Worldwide, Dacia posted an 8.33% increase in its sales to 239,964 units.
