Romania’s Defense Council To Debate Moldova’s Shocking Gesture-Sources

Romania’s Supreme Defense Council, or CSAT, will debate next week about the diplomatic relations between the country and the Republic of Moldova and the consequences of Moldova’s gesture to declare two Romanian diplomats personae non-gratae, official sources said.

The meeting is to take place on Tuesday at 15:00 local hour.

Romania’s president Traian Basescu Friday asked Prime Minister Tariceanu and foreign affairs minister Adrian Cioroianu not to expel Moldova’s diplomats in Romania, as an answer to Moldova’s gesture.

Basescu told the two officials that in such cases, the offended state has to respond in a similar manner.

However, Basescu asked Tariceanu and Cioroianu not to respond to Moldova’s gesture taking into consideration the special relationship between the two countries.

On Wednesday, the Moldovan foreign ministry declared two Romanian diplomats personae non-gratae, saying their activities were incompatible with their diplomatic positions.

The two Romanian officials returned Thursday in Romania.
