Romania’s Govt Ups Social Aids 4.5% As Of Jan ’08

The Romanian Government decided to increase by 4.5% allowances and other social aid, starting with January 2008, Government spokesperson Camelia Spataru announced on Wednesday.

The social aid was increased based on the growth in the consumer price index forecasted for 2008.

Thus, state allowances for newborns will be increased to RON213 from the current RON204. The total financial effort is seen to reach RON40.47 million.

The quantum of additional family allowance will rise to RON38 from RON36 for a family with one child, to RON44 from RON42 for a two-child family, and to RON49 from RON47 for a family with three children.

The allowance for single-parent families is to increase to RON54 from RON52 for a family with one child, to RON65 from RON62 for a family with two children and to RON73 from RON70 for a family with three children.

The net income threshold was also increased by 4.5% compared to 2007.
