Romania’s Govt Wants To Pass Wage Bill Through Confidence Vote

The prime minister said the Government will send the wage law package to Parliament Monday, November 22, to start confidence vote procedures.

Boc said the wage law package includes two acts, a frame law that sets state employees' salary grids for 2011 and a law applying the wage grids.

Boc said Saturday the 2011 state budget bill will be ready as soon as the unitary wage law for the public sector is completed, because the state budget is drafted considering the wage law. The prime minister added next year's budget will be constructed on a deficit of 4.4% f gross domestic product, compared to this year's deficit of 6.8%.

Early November, Boc said the Government might seek a confidence vote in Parliament to pass the IMF-required public sector wage law, but a final decision would be made within the ruling coalition.

Liberal Eugen Nicolaescu said recently opposition Liberal Party pledges to submit a no-confidence emotion if the Government seeks a confidence vote to adopt the bill.

If the motion is rejected or no motion is submitted, the bill gets adopted into law bypassing regular parliamentary procedure.
