It also said the increase in the number of A/H1N1 infections this week is mainly caused by three swine flu outbreaks.

The first outbreak – in the campus in Romanian central city of Brasov – resulted in 18 infections with the new A/H1N1 flu virus, namely six Romanians (five students and one professor) and 12 foreigners (three from Spain, two from Turkey, two from Russia, as well as one from Austria, one from Belgium, Croatia, Greece and Portugal).

The first two cases were confirmed on July 23, another 11 cases were confirmed on July 24 and an additional five cases were confirmed on July 25.

The second outbreak, which resulted in seven infections with the new A/H1N1 flu virus, was reported after July 18 when a group of both Romanians and foreigners arrived in Romania. Three of them were found to carry the virus when they arrived in Romania from England, Bahamas and the United States, and the other four became infected with the A/H1N1 virus after exposure to the person coming from Bahamas and that coming from the United States, respectively.

The third outbreak was reported among a group of children aged 10 to 14 who arrived in Romania on July 23 after taking part in a summer camp in Great Britain. On July 24, eight children were confirmed to carry the A/H1N1 flu virus and seven of them were hospitalized to the infectious diseases hospital "Matei Bals" in capital city Bucharest, while one of them was treated in outpatient setting.

Furthermore, Romania also confirmed another three cases of A/H1N1 infections among other pupils who had returned from Great Britain mid-July.

The swine flu toll in Romania also includes another nine cases, namely, five people who returned from Spain, one from Austria, as well as others from France, Greece and The Netherlands.

According to doctors, all patients are in good health conditions and are receiving antiviral treatment.

The ministry's report also includes the A/H1N1 cases made public on July 21, 24 and 25.
