"We are interested in developing new cars that could be sold in more states, because we need volumes. Since the Logan platform is flexible, we could consider an MPV, a sedan bigger than the Logan and a crossover," le Quement said.

Asked if the Logan family would also include a car smaller than the Sandero, the Renault official said a decision has yet to be made in this respect.

"Between Sandero and the USD2,500 car we are developing with Bajaj Auto in India, there could be room for a model, but a decision has not yet been made in this matter," he explained.

MPVs (Multi Purpose Vehicle), are also known as minivans, they are family cars with a regular seven seats and a big trunk.

A crossover type car can also be called a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) compact and usually has five doors, high suspensions and can have front, back or all wheel drive.

According to statements issued by the Renault procurement director, Odile Desforges, Renault’s Logan program will include four new versions of body, which would be presented before 2012. The new bodies add to the currently existing bodies. Previous statements from Renault officials indicated that the Renault program would have a total number of six car body variants.

Currently, there are five models developed on the Logan platform (B0). The first was Logan Sedan, launched in 2004. Later came Logan MCV (hatchback), Logan VAN, Logan and Sandero. The sixth model developed within the Logan program is an SUV. This model will enter production in 2009.
