Romanian Employees Pessimistic About X-Mas Bonuses In ’08 - Poll

International economic downturn made Romanian employees less confident they will receive Christmas bonuses in 2008, as only 20% of employees expect bonuses compared to 53% in 2007, according to a survey released Thursday by the BestJobs recruitment website.

“Romanians’ expectations for the winter holiday dropped dramatically compared to the similar period a year ago. Last year, 53% of the Romanians expected to be rewarded with bonuses for the holiday, while only 20% showed the same confidence this year,” the survey noted.

The survey, available at www.bestjobs.ro, included data from 8,000 online users and 100 companies.

Some 12% of the respondents said they expect to receive presents as a reward for their work in 2008, 13.5% expressed hope to have a company party, while 2% said the only reward they might get from employers will be a holiday card.

Nevertheless, half of the interviewed managers and HR officials said they plan to grant Christmas bonuses in 2008, the survey showed.

Some 23% of the employers indeed confirmed the current economic environment does not allow this type of expenses.
