Romanian Ex-Convict Miron Cozma Set To Run For Presidency

“The polls put me ahead of Mircea Geoana (president of the Social Democratic Party, - e.n.), but I just can’t wave statistics, because I don’t have a party to back me. I will run (for president), as a large part of the general population asked me to. I will run independently if I can’t register my Workers Party. I am not in a hurry to do that,” Cozma told a press conference.

Cozma said he will run for presidency despite a court order prohibiting him to vote or run for public office until 2014.

Cozma was released from prison in December 2007, after serving ten years for his role in the miners’ riots back in 1991.
