Romanian Govt Enacts Ordinance On "Spiru Haret" University

Romanian university "Spiru Haret" needs to disband long distance education, organize elections for the position of rector and to complete law studies at four years, according to an Ordinance enacted Wednesday by the Government, legalizing the university.

Education minister Ecaterina Andronescu said the Government enacted the ordinance regulating the measures proposed by the Ministry of Education for the legalization of the "Spiru Haret" University, mainly concerning the elimination of long distance education.

At the same time, Andronescu said the Education Code will replace long distance education with reduced frequency education.

The dignitary added "Spiru Haret" second and third year long distance students can transfer to a certified form of education.

Also, the university needs to organize elections for management, since the university’s rector has not been validated since 2000.

Law graduates who finished school with 180 credits need to complete their studies to reach 240 credits, while studies will be extended from three to four years.

The dignitary also said "Spiru Haret" will enter a special monitoring program.
