The CFR 2 neonatology, gynecology and operating sections were closed down on Thursday and the patients were gradually released, said Codreanu.

He also said the sections in question were sanitized two weeks ago. There are 20 beds in the neonatology section and 40 in gynecology. Codreanu couldn't specify how many beds were taken on the night the two women had surgery and then developed infections.

Amelia Antoniu, 36, first soloist of the National "Ion Dacian" Operetta Theater, and Alice Roxana Preda, 35, were rushed from the CFR 2 Hospital to the Bucharest Emergency University Hospital on Tuesday night. They were both admitted to the Intensive Care Unit in critical condition, with acute respiratory issues.

Amelia Antoniu had been admitted to the CFR 2 Hospital for a cervical cauterization. According to the singer's mother and husband, the woman's state gradually worsened after surgery.

Alice Roxana Preda, 14 weeks pregnant, was admitted for a cervical stitch. She underwent surgery in the same operating room as the singer, shortly afterward. The next day, the patient's fetus was removed, which caused her a severe hemorrhage, said husband Gabriel Preda.

As the women's conditions did not improve, they were rushed to Bucharest's Emergency University Hospital Tuesday night. According to the two patients' families, the women suffer from hospital-acquired infections.

Both patients are now nearly stable, but still breathing artificially, said Elena Copaciu, head of the Anesthesia-Intensive Care Clinic at Bucharest's Emergency University Hospital. According to Copaciu, the diagnosis and cause of the infection will be determined once clinical tests are final.

Amelia Antoniu is one of the most important first soloists at the National "Ion Dacian" Operetta Theater. She is a cast member in most of the theater's major shows.
