Romanian Hip-Hop Singer Arrested On Drug Dealing Charges

Romanian hip-hop artist Cristian Ionascu, known as “Gigis”, who sings with the band La Familia, was arrested Tuesday evening by organized crime prosecutors on charges of drug dealing and possession of drugs for personal consumption.

Police officers arrested Ionascu in Vaslui, northeastern Romania, where he was staying with his father.

Police found over 500 grams of cannabis, cultivated in his own household.

Police entered his house after other two young people were caught with 50 grams of cannabis in a taxi.

According to the investigators, the two were going to deliver the cannabis they took from Ionascu in the city.

Prosecutors said the three will be taken to Vaslui Court on Wednesday, under charges of illegal drug trade and possession of drugs.

Two years ago, Ionascu together with hip-hop singer Puya participated in a national anti-drugs campaign called “Learn To Choose!”
