Militaru said the ministry has found ways to pay all its employees, until the implementation of an act stating specific criteria and conditions for layoffs.

The Interior Ministry has asked the Finance Ministry to postpone the job cuts by three months, until July 1, but the request has been denied.

On Wednesday, the Interior Ministry said it had drawn up a bill comprising special measures, to allow the ministry to observe the state budget law and the indicators it stipulates. The bill was approved in a Government meeting and sent to the Parliament to be adopted.

The ministry's budget for this year is about EUR1.7 billion, or 1.38% of the gross domestic product. Interior Minister Traian Igas said around 9,000 employees will be laid off.
