Romanian Lower Chamber Rejects Simple Motion Against Health Min

In order to be passed, a simple motion needs to be approved by half plus one of the MPs present.

Liberals have recently highlighted the budget earmarked for the healthcare system in 2010 will be depleted until June, as it will be used to pay last year's overdue debts. They also said that pharmacies receive in March 2010 the money for medicines sold in June and August 2009, and some of them have already filed for bankruptcy.

Another problem underscored by liberals is that of vaccine producer Cantacuzino Institute, saying they want to know why in 2009 the Health Ministry failed to allot the institute the funds needed for investments to observe the plan established with the National Institute for Medicines.

Liberals have also criticized the decision to introduce a tax on fast-food, adding the Health Ministry and the Government's only purpose is to collect money to the budget.

In addition, liberals have also brought to light problems targeting medicine prices and the way they influence the medicine market, arguing 20% of the medicines Romania imported were re-exported to other EU member states, to the detriment of the Romanian consumers.
