Romanian National Arrested In Italy, Confesses To Murdering Italian Couple

Romanian national Claudiu Stoleru, 20, was arrested Thursday night by Italian police in Civitavecchia, after he confessed he had murdered a couple Wednesday in Lugagnano di Sona, ANSA news agency cited Italian investigators as saying.

Stoleru was detained for questioning during a raid seeking illegal immigrants, and the Romanian confessed to the murder of Luigi Meche and Luciana Rambaldo. Preliminary information indicated Stoleru occasionally helped Meche with paint jobs. The young man said he killed the two after the man has demanded sexual favors.

The murder weapon, a hammer, has not yet been found.

"If what this young man confessed is true, then we can say authorities have done their duty very fast. Now we have to take exemplary measures,” said Lugagnano di Sona mayor, Gualtiero Mazzi.
