Romanian National Integrity Agency To Check Wealth Of Youth Min – Sources

Officially, the ANI’s Press Office told MEDIAFAX that the institution does not have the right to issue press statements regarding ongoing investigations.

According to her wealth statement, democrat liberal senator Luminita Placinta, youth and sports minister, owns three buildings in Romanian city Focsani and another one in Montreux, Switzerland, as well as jewelry worth EUR40,000 and paintings worth the same amount, but also three cars - Renault, Dacia and Skoda.

The wealth statement, filed in June 2009, indicates that Placinta has two pieces of property in Focsani, with surfaces of 5,178 square meters, respectively 1,249 square meters, both bought in 2004.

In addition, she has three buildings in Focsani, also bought in 2004, with surfaces of 140 sqm, 946 sqm and 121 sqm.

In addition, in 2007, Placinta’s husband and business partner also bought a building in Switzerland, Montreux, with a surface of 144 sqm and a tax value of EUR400,000.

At the same time, Placinta has three cars, bought in 1999 (Dacia), 2000 (Renault) and 2003 (Skoda). She owns jewelry worth EUR40,000, obtained between 2000 and 2008, as well as paintings and furniture, of similar value, obtained between 2004 and 2008.

Placinta has two BRD accounts, opened in 2004 and 2007, where she holds 1,138,313.81 lei (EUR1 = RON4.2356) and EUR13,881.88. In the wealth statement filed when she became a Member of Parliament, in December 2008, Placinta had four BRD Bucharest accounts, opened in 2004 – EUR108,649.83; 2007 - RON425,078.42; 2006 - CHF207.66 (Swiss francs); 2004 - EUR6,587.69.

In addition, she took out a BRD loan, contracted in 2006, worth RON57,454.

In 2008, Placinta collected dividends worth RON1,442,399 from SC Sorste SA. In addition, she declared annual revenues of RON181,364. She is a shareholder within SC Sorste SA and associate in two companies: Spapmen and Depsorste.

In addition, according to the Romanian Trade Registry, she is an associate at Milcofil SA.

Romanian weekly Academia Catavencu published, as soon as Placinta was appointed youth and sports minister, a story claiming there are irregularities in Placinta’s wealth statement, and hinted at the fact that the ANI should take notice.
