Pardau said the members of the Chamber’s Standing Office decided that liberals’ request on the start of prosecution against Ridzi be sent to the Chamber’s legal committee for further analysis and they also approved the functioning regulation of the legislative committee investigating Ridzi.

Furthermore, Pardau stressed the legislative committee would carry on its activity, adding it could only cease its activity if Romania’s prosecutor general announces the start of criminal prosecution against Ridzi.

With respect to the letter sent by Ridzi to the Chamber earlier Monday, urging the Parliament to cease its investigation against her, Pardau said the "Parliament only communicates with the prosecutor general."

Ridzi on Monday urged the Parliament to cease its investigation against her, arguing anticorruption prosecutors already launched a criminal probe on June 23 to check the way funds were spent for celebrations on Youth Day.

Ridzi sent a letter to the Chamber’s Standing Office, requesting the Chamber, on the basis of Law 304 corroborated with the Chamber’s Regulation, to take note that "the legislative investigation ceases under the law" in the wake of criminal probe regarding the file 147/P/2009 of the National Anticorruption Department.

On June 23, the Chamber approved setting up an inquiry committee to probe allegations of fund misappropriation against Ridzi.

The allegations of fund misappropriation were forwarded by liberal MPs, who claimed Ridzi mishandled money allocated for organizing the celebrations on Youth Day.

Ridzi herself requested the lawmakers to clear setting up the committee.
