Former democrat leader Petre Roman was appointed, through a decision of Prime Minister Calin Tariceanu, as High Representatie of the Government for Romanians abroad, within the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, with the position of state adviser.

Romanian PM Appoints Ex Democrat Head As High Govt Rep

 

The leaders of the National Liberal Party validated, Tuesday, Roman’s liberal candidacy in the upcoming Parliament elections.

The Government said, in a press release, that the High Representative will handle the promotion and support of Romanian community interests outside Romanian borders, in cooperation with the Department for Relations with Romanians Everywhere within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the promotion of interests for Romanians working abroad, in relations with local authorities in their states of residence.

Petre Roman (62) was the first Romanian Prime Minister in Romania after the Revolution, until 1991, while in 2000 he took the position of foreign affairs minister.

Roman was the leader of the Romanian Democratic Party until 2001, when he was replaced by Traian Basescu.
