Finance Minister Sebastian Vladescu, who told newspaper Ziarul Financiar he thinks Romania should switch to a progressive taxation system instead of the 16% flat tax it has maintained for the past six years, was not present at the meeting with the prime minister, because he had to leave for Brussels, Boc said.

The meeting, for the monitoring of the country's absorption of EU funds, was attended by the ministers of interior, labor, economy, environment, transport regional development, communications, education and culture.

"Let me make myself very clear to all ministers: I forbid you to speak publicly on issues and projects that have not been discussed and approved by the Government," Boc said, adding that Vladescu had no authority to speak publicly about the flat tax or a progressive taxation system.

"The issue of the flat tax is not a seminar topic, it is a very important political decision and cannot be done away with in a statement printed in a newspaper," Boc said.
