Romanian PM Calls On Unions To Halt Protests Until After Presidential Elections

Boc reassured the government will always be open to talks with unionists and employers targeting the minimum wage, the draft Pact for Employment and Social Stability, pension reform, the 2010 state budget, amendments to the unitary pay law for the public sector and the drafting of a fiscal responsibility law, as well as other core issues for various economic sectors.

Boc on Thursday attended, for nearly one hour, the meeting held at the Labor Ministry headquarters between union leaders, employers and ministry officials, for talks targeting an increase in the minimum wage and the National Pact for Employment.

The country's interim Labor Minister Gheorghe Pogea and Labor Ministry secretary of state Valentin Mocanu are currently in talks with unionists and employers to further decide on the minimum salary in 2010.

Talks will also target the signing of the National Pact that will include a series of measures meant to protect and support employees, secure jobs and establish coherent salary policies. Talks will also focus on drafting policies for further sustained economic growth.
