Romanian President Is “A Bit Sad”, Surprised By Stolojan’s Decision

Asked how come he designated for prime minister Democratic Liberal Party leader Emil Boc, the mayor of Cluj-Napoca, after saying last week that local officials shouldn’t be part of the government, Basescu said Stolojan has no equivalent within the party.

"I have no equivalent for Theodor Stolojan within the Democratic Liberal Party. That is the problem. As far as I know, their train of thought in the designation of a prime minister was based on the fact that Stolojan’s authority and experience could serve as an equivalent amid leaders of other parties," Basescu said.

"Right now, PDL has no one closer than the party president in terms of influence and credibility,” he added.

The president added the goal to have the new government instated by Dec 22 remains unchanged.
