Romanian Sibiu Mayor Klaus Johannis Voted For His “Team”

Romanian Sibiu mayor Klaus Johannis on Sunday said he voted for his "team," which consists of a parliamentary majority that has backed him for prime minister over the past two months.

Asked to voice his expectations from the country's future president, Johannis stressed he hopes the future head of state will be "a true president for Romanians."

Johannis also said he hopes for a fair result of the election runoff on Sunday.

Johannis has been backed for prime minister by all parliamentary parties except the democrat liberals, whose minority government collapsed in a no-confidence vote mid-October.

About 18 million Romanian eligible voters are expected to cast ballots Sunday to elect their president for the next five years and will choose between incumbent President Traian Basescu and social democrat Mircea Geoana.

Polls close at GMT1900.
