Romanian “Weed Shops” Could Be Outlawed Following An Order By The Health Min

The debate deadline is September 19, after which the Order will be published in the Official Journal, which will entail the closing of Weed Shops that sell vegetal products with hallucinogenic effects.

The Ministry of Health thus adopts norms that "regulate the circulation of goods and services with potential impact on public health."

The general manager of the Department for Strategies and Medicine Policies within the Ministry of Health, Gabriel Saramet, said at the moment there are shops in Romania selling a series of products made of plants called "ethnobotanic", whose consumption is dangerous for health.

"Given the amplitude of the phenomenon and the risks faced by people who buy the mentioned products, public authorities need to intervene to protect the health of citizens. Since there is no normative act that would regulate such a situation, the Ministry of Health has convened an inter-institutional working group that has developed a draft order to set the conditions for the selling of these products," Saramet explained.

The draft order prohibits activities involving plants, vegetal products or substances that induce or can induce the idea that they could have effects similar to those of plants, substances and mixtures with hallucinogenic effect.
