Vasilescu pointed out that in developed countries services account for 60% up to 80% of gross domestic product, while Romania has barely managed to go a bit over 50%.
The inflation chart consists of three elements, namely, the dynamics of food products, non-food products and services, which total 10,000 points, of which, the segment of food products totals 3,800 points, which means that Romanians spend 38% of their incomes on food.
Vasilescu stressed that the segment of non-food products totals 4,500 points, while the segment of services totals only 1,700 points.
According to Vasilescu, Romania will gradually manage to catch up with developed countries in what concerns the weight of services in the inflation chart as people’s incomes start increasing.
To calculate inflation, Romania computes the percentages in the inflation chart based on the surveys conducted in 2005, while Bulgaria considers the surveys conducted in 2006.
