Representatives of the Arad Border Police Inspectorate said most Romanians who return home through the country’s western border, are people coming to spend the winter holidays with their families.
At the end of last week, some 10,000 people crossed the western Romanian border, almost twice as many people as in normal days.
Laura Lapadat, spokesperson of the Arad Inspectorate said all necessary measures are being taken to decongest traffic and that more customs officers will be assigned at the border checkpoints during the holiday season.
Each year, during Christmas and Easter, traffic at border between Romania and Hungary increases significantly, as Romanians working abroad return home for the holidays.
