Twelve bears were captured in mountain resort Sinaia, central Romania, and will be taken to a reservation in Arges county, southern Romania, as they had come down into town numerous times over the last few days, Sinaia mayor Vlad Oprea said Thursday.

Oprea said the local authorities initiated operations to capture the bears that had been recently spotted in several areas of the mountain resort.

Oprea said the Sinaia mayoralty received the permission from the Romanian Environment Ministry to catch and transport 14 bears to the reservation in Arges, and managed to capture 12 so far.

The mayoralty of Sinaia said it would ask for permission to capture another 13 bears to ensure the safety of the locals, Oprea told MEDAFAX.

"Recently, a bear entered a pub,” Oprea said.

The mayor of Sinaia said after authorities moved the waste dump from the mountain, the bears started coming down into town looking for food.
