Twelve Dead, Two Severely Injured In Plane Crash In SE Romania

One of the survivors died later Monday from severe injuries, in hospital in capital Bucharest.

Constanta ambulance service representative Marian Beciu said immediately after the accident that the three survivors, who suffered severe burns and injuries, were transported to the hospital and were in a bad condition.

According to ambulance service sources, the plane crashed soon after taking off and burst into flames when it hit the ground. The 14 people aboard the plane were members of the crew and parachute jumpers.

The AN-2 plane belonged to Boboc Air Force Application School, in Buzau county, and was on a parachute training mission, said the Romanian Defense Ministry.

People close to the investigation said the flight school commander, Nicolae Jianu, is among those who died in the crash.

Defense Minister Gabriel Oprea will set up an investigation commission to determine the cause of the accident. Constanta prefect Claudiu Palaz said military prosecutors have already started investigations.
