The alarm was sounded Saturday evening and two locals, employees of the gold mine, mountain rescuers and mine rescuers went in after the victims. Rescuers brought out the bodies of the two young men and one survivor, who was taken to the emergency hospital in Deva and released Sunday morning.

Officials of mining company Minvest, which owns the mine, said the victims were out to steal scarp iron in an area where access was restricted.
