The damage was caused after Gheorghe Supeala, general manager, and Zizi Anaganstopol, financial manager at SC Petromservice SA, currently known as SC PSV Company SA, signed three study completion contracts with two companies controlled by the other defendants. The companies, represented by Laszlo Gyorgy Kiss and Mariana Iordachescu, received over EUR7 million, net of VAT, in 2008.

The signing was mediated by Ionut Adrian Eftime, who handled the formalities, despite not holding any position in either company. Eftime, Kiss and Iordachescu are charged with money laundering.

The contracts were signed without following Petromservice's internal procurement procedure and without there being a need for the services, which were not even provided to the company later.

The contracts' only purpose, prosecutors say, was to give formal justification to a transfer of funds from SC Petromservice SA to Eftime. The transfer was carried out with the help of Iordachescu and Kiss, who received a fee of about 10% of the contracts' value. To disguise the source of the funds, the group moved the money through a number of offshore companies controlled by Kiss and Iordachescu.

To recover the damage, the prosecutors have seized a number of buildings owned by the five defendants, as well as a car owned by Eftime, whose bank accounts have also been frozen.

According to the General Prosecutor's office, Ionut Adrian Eftime is the son of one of businessman Sorin Ovidiu Vintu's main associates, Ion Eftime, who as former administrator of TV station Realitatea TV is also investigated for tax evasion.
