About 2,600 Romanians Abroad Voted By GMT 0800

About 300 people voted by that time in Chisinau, the capital of Romania’s eastern neighbor, the Republic of Moldova, where the Romanian Foreign Ministry sent 54,000 ballots for Sunday’s poll.

Voter turnout was relatively low by GMT 0800 in Italy and Spain, where Romania sent 44,000 and 144,000 ballots, respectively. Very few Romanians voted so far in Bulgaria, and most are employees of the Romanian embassy there.

The first Romanian citizens to vote in polling stations abroad were those in Wellington, New Zeeland, where 21 people voted. The polling station in Wellington opened Saturday at GMT 1800 and closed Sunday at GMT 0800.

Voting abroad will be unfolded over 35 hours and will end Monday at GMT 0500 in Los Angeles, Seattle, San Francisco, Las Vegas and Portland in the United States of America.

The Romanian Foreign Ministry set up 221 polling stations abroad.
