About 61,400 Romanian Expats Voted By GMT1400

About 61,400 Romanian expats cast ballots Sunday in the presidential election runoff by GMT1400, and the highest voter turnout was registered in Italy and Spain.

In Italy, about 25,000 voters cast ballots by GMT1400, while in Spain their number reached 21,000.

According to the Foreign Affairs Ministry, about 61,400 Romanians voted in the polling stations abroad by GMT1400.

The highest voter turnout was registered in the Republic of Moldova, Italy, France, Spain, Greece, Belgium and the U.K..

Two weeks ago, in the first round of elections, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that about 50,000 Romanians cast ballots in polling stations set up abroad by GMT1500.

Polling stations in Mexico City and some in the U.S.A (four in Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Larose, Niles and Minneapolis) opened at GMT1300, polling stations in Phoenix, U.S.A, opened at GMT1400, while the rest of polling stations in the U.S.A opened at GMT1500.

In Belgium, 2,300 Romanians voted by GMT1300 and the highest voter turnout was registered in Brussels.

In the Republic of Moldova, 9,200 voters cast ballots by GMT1400, while in Austria voter turnout was of 1,300 in the same timeframe.

In France, voter turnout was of about 3,900 by GMT1400 and 485 Romanians voted in Hungary by GMT1300.

In the first round of presidential elections, about 12,000 Romanians voted in Italy by GMT1400 while in Spain voter turnout was of about 9,200. In the Republic of Moldova 5,000 Romanians cast ballots by GMT1500, while in Hungary, Belgium and France voter turnout by GMT1400 was of 400, 1,600 and 2,000 respectively.

The Romanian Defense Ministry said about 120 Romanian troops out of a total 147 cast ballots in Kosovo, and 560 out of 1,045 troops deployed to Afghanistan voted.

The Defense Ministry added 201 Romanian nationals, militaries, diplomats and representatives of the Interior Ministry, voted in Kosovo by GMT1400.
