Following the decision, the bill will be returned to the Parliament to correct provision deemed unconstitutional.

President Iohannis made the challenge on December 11, stating that the bill is unclear and open to interpretation, in the form that was approved by the Parliament.

He also accused several unconstitutional aspects in procedures for selecting the chairman and deputy of the council which monitored the implementation of conventon provisions into Romanian law.

Romania was one of the 162 UN members which signed the convention in 2007.
