Swoboda told RFI Romania that the prime minister should talk to the president and they should agree on a name acceptable by both parties involved, to avoid leaving the impression, in the international community, that these matters are not treated with adequate attention.

Answering a question, he stated that the situation in the Ministry of Justice is a delicate matter as opposed to previous scandals, and that the Justice portfolio should be managed by someone serious and without partisan tendencies, in whom the EU might place confidence.

Swoboda did not state an opinion on Nicolai’s adequacy for the position, but he added that former justice minister Monica Macovei gave the EU the impression that she is fighting for a society without corruption, while the people who came after her at the Ministry, who are involved in such disputes, do not help the country.

In his opinion, reform in Justice might be sidetracked by the absence of a minister and it is important that such a minister exist and that they be “trustworthy.”
